Hispanic Unit of the Federal Theatre Project

Referenced in Nicolás Kanellos’ A History of Hispanic Theatre in the United States. This group mostly performed in the Centro Asturiano theater in the 1930s. Many of the works they performed were zarzuelas, theater pieces which more musical and involved a mix between spoken and sung scenes. The first zarzuela was performed in the 1650s in Spain.
